Wichita Falls Dance

Children6bThe Boehm Ballet Academy of Dance offers a comprehensive education for the development of the dancer, under the guidance of expert instructors, who have a background of wide professional experience.

The ballet technique taught at the Boehm Ballet Academy of Dance is based on the outstanding elements of the Russian, Italian and French schools, all stem from the five absolute positions of the feet which oblige the dancer to turn the legs outward from the hip, greatly increasing the mobility and extension, and from definite positions of the arms, torso and head. Like the alphabet, every movement is learned separately, then woven into combinations of movements and finally into the choreographic poems we call ballets. This system forms the basis for all the courses given at the school.

All students in all divisions are carefully places according to age and ability to insure maximum progress. Much emphasis is placed on individual corrections.

Pre-Ballet Division

This division for children age three to six is planned from the standpoint of the psychological as well as the physical development of the child. These classes will provide children with ballet fundamentals and give them an opportunity to work harmoniously with other children while engaging in creative dances.

Beginner and Intermediate Division

plie2Students are carefully led through beginning and intermediate grades into pointe work. Pointe should not be undertaken until the legs and feet are sufficiently strong and developed. The School does not encourage hurried training and practices the policy of all serious schools in properly preparing each student with a basic ballet foundation before beginning pointe work. Correct training begun at the right age is of paramount importance in the education of ballet dancers. It insures faultless technique and distinction of style throughout their careers, whereas errors permitted at the beginning of ballet training become increasingly serious impediments as the work advances.

The boys, of course, do not go on pointe. Their training is based more on jumps, beats, turns and exercises that develop strength and agility.

Advanced Division

adriannaThe classes in this division will include academic ballet, pointe, supported adagio, and variations from the current and traditional repertoire.

Regular and lengthy practice, both supervised and independent, is required to master the various positions and movements. Each student must be trained by rigid discipline until the technique is so fully mastered that it does not have to be thought about. Then the dancer is free to use the body as an instrument and is ready to cope with the different styles and interpretations of the choreographer.

Students taught by the Boehms have gone on to join the ranks of professional ballet companies. Some have received degrees in dance from major universities and many have studied under scholarship with major professional ballet companies.
